Boron Nitride
What is Boron Nitride? Boron Nitride is a high performance ceramic material that is known for its electrical insulation, chemical resistance and thermal conductivity properties. It is commonly used in lubricants, aerospace and electronics applications. Boron nitride typically has a very fine particle size that leads to frequent agglomeration of the powder and this combined with its lightweight nature can make sieving boron nitride a challenge. Traditional vibratory and ultrasonic sieving machines often lack the energy needed to deagglomerated the powder and can quickly blind the screen mesh leading to poor sieving.

Elcan Industries has successfully sieved Boron Nitride at fine sizes as low as 10 microns using the Hi-Sifter sieving system. The system employs a strong vertical energy into the screen mesh which easily breaks up agglomerates and allows them to pass through the fine mesh. By using an energy approach to sieving boron nitride, the material is never afforded the material to blind the screen mesh due to being elevated inside the screener. Using the Allgaier tumbler screener, separations down to 44um have been achieved using the unique air knife system. This system acts as a production sized jet sieve and sucks powder through the screen mesh while simultaneously blowing a stream of air through the system to constantly clean the mesh.
