Zirconia

Zirconia powder (zirconium dioxide) is a naturally occurring oxide powder that is a major ingredient in the electronics industry due to its high ionic conductivity. Sieving zirconia powder at fine sizes can be a challenging process due to the shape and flowability of the powder. When sieving zirconia powder, these needs to be considered as the angular shape of the powder can lead to somewhat confusing results. Customers need to decide which angular particles they consider “product” when sieving zirconia powder and plan to run the equipment based off of this.

Elcan's Experience

Fine sieving of zirconia powder can be done easily on the hi-sifter sieving system. The energy on the screen easily breaks up any agglomerates in the powder. Using the energy spectrum inside of the screener, we can manipulate which particles pass through the mesh and which come off as over or undersize. The Minox system can be used for screening zirconia for companies that are looking to isolate particles based on shape instead of size.
