Silicon nitride powder is a very hard ceramic powder that is used for both abrasion resistance and as an insulator for electronics. Depending on the size of the powder, sieving silicon nitride can be an easy or very difficult process. To classify silicon nitride when it is a coarser powder, the user needs to closely monitor the level on the screen. The powder is extremely abrasive and must be sieved gently or it will quickly rip the screen mesh. Sieving silicon nitride at finer sizes is usually not as difficult and can be done easily on the right piece of equipment.
