What is Frac Sand? Frac Sand is a high purity quartz sand used as a proppant in hydraulic fracking. The sand has a very high silica content (over 99% quartz) and has high strength and purity. Frac sand is extremely spherical in order to allow for better packing and fluid flow in fractures and maintain a distinct particle size when processing frac sand is imperative. Inability to meet the particle size demands of 20/40, 30/50 and 40/70 mesh can lead to blocked fractures and clogged pores which can reduce permeability. Sieving these highly spherical particles at high processing throughput rates can be a difficult task using conventional screeners & ultrasonic sives.
Sieving frac sand can be a tedious task especially when using sieving equipment that employs an energy spectrum of vibrations to make the separation. The material tends to bounce on the screen and has difficulty finding the mesh openings which can result in poor efficiencies and screen mesh blinding. Using our unique Tumbler screener frac sand can be done in a fast and efficient manner. The 3D gyratory motion of the tumbler screener, prevents particles from jumping on the screen and allows them to “roll” on the screen mesh, similar to panning for gold. The tumbler screeners can come up to 2.6M in diameter allowing them to meet any processing capacity demands.
