What is High Purity Quartz (HPQ)? High Purity Quartz is a specialized form of silica (SiO2) that contains very low levels of iron, making it critical in high tech industries. The high purity level, and its unique chemical and physical properties make it commonplace in industries like semiconductors, high performance glass and hydraulic fracking. Sieving and magnetic separation of High purity quartz are of the utmost importance in order to maintain particle size control and remove any ferrous contaminants from the powders. Sieving high purity quartz can be difficult due to the fine size of the powder (typically below 100um). The can lead to blinded screen meshes when using conventional screeners and the abrasiveness of the powder can quickly tear tensioned screen meshes. Removing ferrous contaminants must be done effectively in order to achieve very low PPM levels that pass the rigorous standards for advanced industries.
