What is Acetaminophen Powder? Acetaminophen (paracetamol) is a widely used active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in pain relief and fever reduction medications. The particle size distribution of acetaminophen powder is critical for producing consistent tablets and capsules. However, due to its needle-shaped crystals, sieving acetaminophen can be particularly challenging. These shapes can cause clumping, making it difficult to press the powder into tablets.
Proper sieving ensures that acetaminophen powder maintains the correct particle size distribution for reliable tablet formation and controlled dissolution rates. Pharmaceutical manufacturers need to minimize the number of fines (particles below 180 microns) to ensure the product can be compressed into tablets without quality issues. Achieving this with needle-shaped particles can be difficult, requiring advanced screening technologies to overcome screen mesh blinding and clogging.
Elcan Industries has extensive experience working with pharmaceutical powders like acetaminophen to meet tight specifications. In one recent project, a client faced challenges with an excess of fines in their acetaminophen powder, which made tablet production nearly impossible. By utilizing our Allgaier tumbler screening machine, which combines radial and tangent movement, we helped achieve the required particle size distribution. The unique design of the machine allowed the needle-shaped particles to pass through the screen with minimal blinding. Additionally, air cleaning and a slight vacuum under the screen helped reduce fines to just 2-3%, ensuring successful tablet production.
Our advanced screening technologies, including tumbler screeners and Allgaier machines, are well-suited for difficult-to-process materials like acetaminophen. These technologies offer precise control over particle size, minimizing product loss and ensuring high-quality output.
