What is Resin Coated Sand (RCS)? Resin Coated Sand is a specialized proppant used in fracking and foundry applications. It is considered a high purity silica sand that is coated with a thin layer of resin in order to enhance strength and improve performance. Uniform particle size when processing RCS is imperative for effective packing and fluid flow in fractures. The material is extremely abrasive and due to the resin in the sand, the particles are very prone to sticking together which combined with too many fines, can result in screen blinding i.e clogged screen meshes and poor efficiencies and throughput rates.
