Super absorbents are polymers that are used as an absorbent of water and aqueous solutions mainly in diapers. The real difficulty in screening super absorbents comes from the particles itself. Super absorbent particles are extremely misshaped and makes it difficult for individual particles to find the screen hole openings. The other major problem with screening super absorbents is the fact that the particles are very friable. This means that too much energy will actually break up the material and this is not desirable.

Elcan Industries helped develop the modern-day super absorbent process as we know it. Working closely with a very large super absorbent manufacturing customer, Elcan was able to develop a system to successfully screen super absorbents at 325 mesh (44 microns). Using an air knife system, and various other techniques couples with their Tumbler screeners, Elcan made a once impossible process, a reality. Elcan has sold over 150 machines into this industry already! Some clients that do not want to purchase equipment simply have us toll process the material for them at our facilities and ship it back to them or their end customers.
